Champions League Twenty20 Guyana v Bangalore Live

Champions League Twenty20 2010

Match facts

Guyana v Bangalore
Sunday, September 12

Start time 1730 (1530 GMT)

Bangalore will have fond memories of South Africa, having finished runners-up in the IPL last year. It was midway through that tournament that they installed Anil Kumble at the helm, after fumbling under Rahul Dravid in the first season and then Kevin Pietersen for the initial part of the 2009 season. With South African Ray Jennings as coach, and senior player Jacques Kallis also hailing from the country, Kumble can tap into a wealth of local knowledge.
On the other hand, not only do Guyana have few players with substantial international experience, most of the squad haven't played in South African conditions as well. However, they can take inspiration from their Caribbean rivals, Trinidad & Tobago, who also hadn't played much in the subcontinent, but won hearts with their fearless cricket as they stormed to the finals of the inaugural Champions League Twenty20.

Mumbai v Bangalore IPL 2010 Live

20 overs Mumbai Indians 151 for 9 (Vinay 3-25, Steyn 3-26)

R Vinay Kumar is used to being among the top wicket-takers in Indian domestic cricket, and then watching others steal the spotlight - much like earlier this year when his state-mate Abhimanyu Mithun made his international debut ahead of him after just one season of impressive numbers. On Saturday night, for a change, he grabbed the limelight by removing Sachin Tendulkar, Dwayne Bravo and Ambati Rayudu in one over - benefiting in part from the pressure created by his team-mates' smart swing bowling, changes of pace, bouncers to Indian batsmen, and aggressive spin bowling by Anil Kumble. That one over turned a cat-and-mouse game Bangalore's way, and left them a manageable total to chase.

Praveen Kumar and Dale Steyn laid the foundations of controlling the rampaging batting line-up that had scored 200-plus in both their previous matches. Praveen, with his swing either side in his first over, sent the message that scoring wouldn't be that easy against this attack, and Steyn in his first removed Sanath Jayasuriya with a quick outswinger.

Kings XI Punjab v Delhi Daredevils, IPL 2010

Dirk Nannes was too quick and disconcerting, Farveez Maharoof too opportunistic, and Delhi Daredevils' fielders too alert for Ravi Bopara's 48-ball 56 to bother Delhi going into the chase on a flat pitch. Regular wickets and frequent wickets punctuated Kings XI Punjab's innings as Delhi got another IPL campaign off to a good start. Nannes went for just 12 runs in his four overs, and Maharoof claimed the big wickets of Kumar Sangakkara and Yuvraj Singh.

Bopara got support from Irfan Pathan - out of India's preliminary squad for World Twenty20 but fit enough to start for Punjab - during a 60-run fifth-wicket partnership, but they will feel they haven't recovered enough from being 44 for 4.

Sharp fielding, Nannes' awkward bounce, and Maharoof's capitalising on the pressure left the lower middle order with too much to do. Mithun Manhas started Punjab's slide with a direct hit to remove Manvinder Bisla. Sangakkara, Punjab's new captain, came out counterattacking, but in an inspired move Delhi's new captain, Gambhir, persisted with Maharoof despite his 18-run fourth over

Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals, IPL 20

The second-fastest Twenty20 hundred, a 37-ball assault from Yusuf Pathan, as delicate as it was brutal, wasn't enough on a day in which precious little was contributed by the other Rajasthan Royals players. Despite Mumbai Indians piling on their biggest score in the IPL, it required special death bowling from Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga to deny Rajasthan 19 runs in the last two overs.

Yusuf's onslaught came after Mumbai's youngsters Ambati Rayudu, considered unlucky to have not played for India yet, and Saurabh Tiwary powered the home side to what seemed a massive total, but it turned out to be one that just about dodged the Yusuf-shaped bullet.

The it's-good-to-be-back ad campaign of the IPL could well have been meant exclusively for Yusuf. In his first innings back in India, he shook a dying match up and gave Mumbai a right scare. The Yusuf show began when Rajasthan needed 143 off 57. He scored 54 off the next 11 balls he faced, 26 other deliveries got him 46, and when he finally got out he left Rajasthan 40 to get off 17 deliveries.

Virender Sehwag v Punjab's spinners: The man who once pronounced he had little respect for bowlers of the slow variation should relish the prospect of facing two different types of spinners. Sehwag had a poor outing in the last IPL, often failing to see off the new-ball bowlers, but back at home and in good form he'll be a major threat. Chawla has earned a lot of respect and backing from within the Punjab camp, and Powar is a crafty offspinner whose strength lies in slowing down the pace. When on top of their game the pair can be a handful, but if it's Sehwag's day …
Kumar Sangakkara: Sangakkara didn't do much in South Africa where he struggled to score at hardly more than a run a ball, but now that he's leading Punjab his stock just got higher. He's been talking hard, like he always does, about how Punjab are "spoilt for choice" despite the injuries and absences. Sangakkara could open, as opposed to No. 3, and if that's the case then he's going to have to walk the talk. Him against Dirk Nannes is one contest to relish.

1st ODI: India v South Africa at jeypuur
Feb 21 (14:30 local, 09:00 GMT)
Both teams have been hit hard by injuries: South Africa will miss Smith while India don't have Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. India's injuries present more opportunities to the likes of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to cement their places in the side. Kohli had a superb outing in the tri-series in Bangladesh and the pressure is on Raina, whose stock slipped after a poor ICC World Twenty20.

India v South Africa 1st Test, Kolkatta

Dhoni welcomed back Paul Harris, who could have had Mishra in the second over of the day but for the drop by Jacques Kallis at slip, with a four and a six in his first two overs. India's plan was clear then: Laxman was to be the solid anchorman, and the others were to score quickly around him. In the last over before lunch, Dhoni pushed forward at Harris, the ball spun and the edge flew to left of slip. Kallis had by then taken a special overhead catch to remove Mishra, but this one didn't stick - the third such instance off Harris' bowling in a session and one delivery. Dhoni was 23 then.

1st Test: India v South Africa day 3

Amla could continue playing his natural game, taking singles and punishing the loose deliveries, because de Villiers came out full of intent. He played almost every other delivery about four yards down the wicket. Before India knew, Mishra had dragged a few deliveries short because of the jumping around, had been pulled for three boundaries down the ground, de Villiers had reached 33 off 52, and Amla was in the 180s.

Amla then pulled out the reverse-sweep against Harbhajan. In the 190s, signs of anxiety were there. He followed an offbreak into his pads, and hit it between keeper and leg slip. Then he spent eight deliveries on 199, but he came down the track and played a lovely cover-drive against Virender Sehwag to bring up the milestone.

That cover-drive, having stepped out to the bowler, was the standout shot of an innings that was so remarkably even you'd be struggle to pick a favourite area or favourite shot in. With de Villiers and JP Duminy falling in relative succession, Amla still stayed solid.

South Africa's lack of intent suggested they wanted to bat till stumps, declare overnight, and start bowling in the morning session, the toughest to bat in. About 40 minutes before close of play, though, Mark Boucher and Amla got a message, they looked to up the rate, but Boucher fell to a slower ball. It always seemed a sudden change of plan to have a go for 15 minutes before stumps, and the declaration came with 25 minutes to go and Amla 24 short of the highest score by a South African.

India v South Africa 1st Test

1st Test: India v South Africa at Nagpur

Feb 6-10 (09:30 local, 04:00 GMT)

India (probable): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 M Vijay, 4 Sachin Tendulkar, 5 VVS Laxman, 6 S Badrinath, 7 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 8, Harbhajan Singh, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Amit Mishra/Pragyan Ojha, 11 Ishant Sharma.

South Africa's big question is which spinner to play. Paul Harris has been their lead Test spinner for a while, has bowled a lot of overs in the last year, should have been the lead spinner for this series too, but Manish Pandey and Abhishek Nayar took him for 71 runs in 12 wicketless overs in the tour game. Johan Botha got one wicket in the same game. It was an anybody-bowls-but-only-11-bat match, and Botha was sent in to bat and not Harris. Don't know how much to read into it. The rest of the XI selects itself.

South Africa (probable): 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Ashwell Prince, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Jacques Kallis, 5 AB de Villiers, 6 JP Duminy, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Johan Botha/Paul Harris, 9 Wayne Parnell, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Morne Morkel

Australia vs Pakistan T20 Live Streaming

Team news
Australia have some strong fast bowlers to choose from, with Ryan Harris, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Tait and Dirk Nannes jostling for three spots. There is also competition at the top of the order with Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh and David Warner all preferring to walk out first.

Australia squad Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, David Warner, Michael Clarke (capt), Cameron White, Travis Birt, David Hussey, Steven Smith, Brad Haddin (wk), Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Dirk Nannes, Shaun Tait.

Pakistan have to tinker to fill the various roles of Afridi and are also without Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, who don't play Twenty20s. There are still 15 players with the squad so the touring selectors have plenty of options.

Pakistan squad Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal (wk), Fawad Alam, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik (capt), Khalid Latif, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Imran Nazir, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif, Saeed Ajmal, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Mohammad Aamer.

Australia (possible) 1 Shaun Marsh, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 Cameron White, 6 Michael Hussey, 7 James Hopes, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Nathan Hauritz, 10 Ryan Harris, 11 Clint McKay.

Mohammad Aamer is likely to be left out of the final two games with a groin problem that also kept him on the sidelines in Adelaide. Fawad Alam showed enough fight to keep his place ahead of Shoaib Malik and with the series lost, there is no reason not to give Rao Iftikhar and Khalid Latif a run, neither having played yet on this tour. But trying to predict what the Pakistan selectors will do is an unrewarding task.

Pakistan (possible) 1 Salman Butt, 2 Kamran Akmal (wk), 3 Younis Khan, 4 Mohammad Yousuf (capt), 5 Umar Akmal, 6 Fawad Alam, 7 Shahid Afridi, 8 Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Mohammad Asif, 11 Saeed Ajmal.

1st ODI: Australia v Pakistan at Brisbane
Pakistan 155/3 (30 ov)
Akmal was back in the team after his problems with the gloves in the Sydney Test and provided Pakistan with a boost during a run-a-ball 34. He hit a couple of smart boundaries through cover and was good support for Butt before his miscued drive off Watson was taken by Michael Clarke at cover.
Hauritz was called in the 12th over by Ricky Ponting and got some bounce but no breakthroughs. While Pakistan enjoyed the conditions, the Australians had less support than usual with a small crowd in attendance.

1st Test: Bangladesh v India day 2 live online

india 213 for 8 (Tendulkar 76*, Sehwag 52, Shakib 4-52, Shahadat 4-51) v Bangladesh

Sehwag's dismissal kickstarted a period of aggressive, smart bowling and captaincy, which eventually resulted in soft dismissals. Gautam Gambhir, who had been circumspect in playing outside off, went to cut a wide delivery from Shahadat and the extra bounce caught the edge. Rahul Dravid came to bat in a situation tailormade for him, but played all around a swinging near-yorker, and 79 for 3 became 85 for 3 in a matter of 17 deliveries.

Shakib kept his fast bowlers fresh by rotating them from one end, and upped the pressure by bowling himself unchanged until stumps. With Rubel Hossain getting reverse-swing from the other end, there were no free hits, boundaries were plugged away, and Laxman, especially, struggled to get off strike. For 13.4 overs there wasn't a single boundary.

Shakib mixed the offbreaks and the arm balls well, varying the degree of the flight as well. After a series of near dismissals - leaving alone an arm ball that almost shaved the off stump, hitting uppishly one bounce to short cover, and scoring 7 off 29 balls, Laxman finally over-balanced when looking to drive Shakib. The ball went straight on, took the inside edge onto the pad, and then rolled along to an alert Mushfiqur Rahim, who found Laxman short of his crease.

Bangladesh v India 1st Test day 1 live

Sehwag, Shakib refused to comment on the Indian vice-captain's remark but said Australia and South Africa are better sides than Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men.

"I don't want to comment on what Sehwag said, we want to concentrate on cricket. It was his thought and it is up to him to say what he wants to say," Shakib said.

But, asked about his views on India being the world number one Test side, Shakib said, "India are world number one Test side as of now. They are playing well and they have a very good batting line-up. But Australia and South Africa are better sides (than India). That is what I think."

The war of words between the two sides, however, has provided some spice to the low-profile two-match Test series starting with the first game at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket stadium on Sunday.

Asked if Bangladesh was an ordinary side as has been termed by Sehwag, Shakib said his side has played well against some good teams and can win the first Test if their key batsmen and bowlers come up with some fine performance.

"We played well against some good sides. We won against West Indies (in July last year). If our key players come up with some good performance we can even win the Test," said Shakib, who had earlier said that a draw in the first Test would be a good result for his side.

Australia v Pakistan

2nd Test Day 2 Live online

Australia 127 Pakistan 14/0

Asif then swung into gear in the period leading up to tea with the wickets of Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Marcus North and Brad Haddin. He went onto remove Hauritz and Johnson to finish with the career-best figures of 6 for 41 as Australia were rolled inside 45 overs.

Pakistan's opening batsmen, Imran Farhat and Salman Butt, added 14 runs without loss before bad light stopped play 4.1 overs into the tourists' innings. Both survived the odd anxious moment, particularly against Doug Bollinger, but their battles paled into insignificance compared to those experienced by the Australian batsmen against a Pakistan attack at its enigmatic best.

Sami was an eleventh-hour inclusion in the Pakistani side after the withdrawal of Mohammad Aamer, one of the heroes of Melbourne, with a groin injury. The move almost paid immediate dividends when Sami had Hughes, a replacement for the injured Simon Katich, dropped by the hard-handed Umar Akmal at backward point from his first delivery. Retribution followed in the next over, however, when Sami lured Hughes into an aggressive push to a straighter, fuller delivery that flew low to Faisal Iqbal at second slip.

The loss of Aamer just days after he became the youngest fast bowler in Test history to claim a five-wicket haul has forced the selectors into yet another change to the bowling line-up. Gul had already been expected to replace the out-of-sorts Abdur Rauf, and a fit-again Kaneria tipped to replace Saeed Ajmal. It now appears Mohammad Sami will slot in for Aamer, potentially leaving Mohammad Asif as the only surviving member of the Pakistan bowling attack from last week's Boxing Day Test.
