For Kolkata Knight Riders fight to stay alive in the tournament, it’s a case of now or never. If it happens now then fine or else they could all watch the semifinals on TV. Mumbai Indians need to keep up the momentum.

McCullum needs to fire, if he does, good, if he doesn't Kolkata Knight Riders can kiss their chances goodbye. Sachin Tendulkar had led the team well, and despite the loss to Kings XI Punjab in a low-scoring game, kept up the morale of the side hig.

Sachin Tendulkar's contest against Ishant Sharma promises to be the tussle that everyone will want to watch. But you have Lasith Malinga slinging in those fast yorkers which is bound to have the likes of Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum interested too.

Gayle leaves Kolkata Knight Riders right after this game, so it’s the last chance for him to make amends.

Kolkata Knight Riders are struggling to get a win on the board but Mumbai Indians have shown they can crumble under pressure. So it makes for a contest with plenty to look forward to.

Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya were let loose on Kolkata Knight Riders in Port Elizabeth and the rest is history. Mumbai Indians put up such a huge total, that Kolkata Knight Riders crumbled under pressure.
It was Sachin Tendulkar all the way as Mumbai Indians won with plenty to spare in Port Elizabeth

East London, May 1,2009,4:00pm
Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody has said the difference between his team and Mumbai Indians during the close game in the DLF Indian Premier League was in the energy levels that his players brought to the 20 overs on the field.

Excerpts from Tom Moody's press conference:

On the bowling being branded as inexperienced: As I have said in every press conference, we can't judge our bowling on the basis of our first two games. We played a six-over game and a nine-over game. And obviously it was weather-affected. But you know the thing that was really pleasing for me it was 11 guys out there who made the difference. The bowlers executed their roles. But the energy on the field was dynamic. We took some crucial chances at some key moments. That's important particularly in a tight struggle when you have got only 120 as a total. So it was a good collective effort. There were obviously some pressure overs that were executed particularly well towards the end, especially with Yusuf Abdulla stepping up the plate and doing the business for us. But I just think the whole team should take the hats off for one other because of the way they conducted themselves and the energy they brought to the 20 overs was the difference between the two teams.

On spinners playing big role in the tournament: We always felt they were key over here, because at the end of the day in South Africa it's the end of their season, so the squares that we are playing on have already had a full season of cricket. So they are a little bit tired, particularly when you are playing back to back games, spin tends to come into play. There is no surprise to us that spin is playing a role. It's no surprise that it plays a role anywhere in the world. You need a change of pace, you need to be unpredictable in those middle overs and the spinners are playing a crucial role in anyone's make-up.

Brett Lee is in town after joining the squad this week, but he won't bowl on Friday and is unlikely to be picked until the Twenty20 to end the tour. The rotation of the attack is the main issue for the squad, with Stuart Clark keen for more work and Ben Hilfenhaus, Nathan Bracken, Ben Laughlin and Doug Bollinger also in the outfit.

Australia 1 Brad Haddin (wk), 2 James Hopes, 3 Shane Watson, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 Andrew Symonds, 6 Callum Ferguson, 7 David Hussey, 8 Nathan Hauritz, 9 Stuart Clark, 10 Nathan Bracken, 11 Doug Bollinger.

Yasir Arafat replaced Shoaib Akhtar in the previous game, but with Pakistan needing to win to stay in touch Shoaib could be recalled to provide some firepower. Ajmal will be feeling vulnerable despite some encouraging returns.

Along with skipper Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs gave Deccan Chargers a flying start to their chase but he batted through the innings, hitting six fours and two sixes in his 69-run knock that came off just 56 balls. The blitzkrieg start saw Deccan Chargers hitting the fastest 50 in this IPL, in just 3.3 overs.

Matthew Hayden gave Chennai the ideal start before Pragyan Ojha struck twice in an over to upset their momentum. Deccan Chargers were under pressure at the strategic break, but Ojha repeated his performance from the match against Mumbai Indians. He managed to dismiss both Dhoni and Hayden in the same over.

In the 18th over, during Chennai Super Kings innings, Jacob Oram scooped Shoaib's delivery, which was just inches short of being a yorker, over the point for four.

Dangerous side with plenty of flair, that's what Delhi Daredevils is all about. A steady bowling attack backed up by deadly strikers at the top, makes it a team to look out for. Coupled with the experience of Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vettori, you have a heady cocktail. But their exuberance could prove to be their downfall like last season. Watch out for the Sehwag-Gambhir jugalbandi followed by some daredevilry from David Warner

Goa Acquisition: Paul Collingwood and Owais Shah form the heart of England's T20 squads. They can change their game according to formats and so expect them to come to the party this time. Collingwood's medium pacers will give an added bow to the Durham man, because Shah may struggle to feature in the first XI.

Captain-coach combination: Virender Sehwag can be imaginative as skipper, has a shrewd cricketing brain. This clear-headed cricketer almost led his side all the way to the crown last season. Unfortunately, the team misfired at the big stage. The coach Kepler Wessels is from the South Africa stable of unlikely men behind the scenes. Kepler can be innovative and come up with unlikely ideas to throw rivals off-guard.

It was a low-key team with most injuries and controversies in DLF-IPL1. But now the team looks settled, the skipper's back with a new staff and some key replenishments. The strength of the side still lies in the top-order, but a few new strikers, plus Sri Lanka's fit slinger Lasith Malinga could provide the best hope for Mumbai Indians in DLF-IPL2.

Captain-coach combination: When Sachin Tendulkar is the captain, he is very much in charge. So the role of Shaun Pollock has been re-defined a bit. He becomes the chief mentor and alongwith fielding coach Jonty Rhodes expect him to turn things around for Mumbai Indians. If Tendulkar needs more help about South African conditions, then he has a former pro in those parts, Praveen Amre to look after the nitty gritties.

DLF-IPL1 was all about this team being called a Test line-up. The world's best batsmen albeit in the longer format got together to form the core. But unfortunately the team crashed out resulting in a few heads rolling. A new brand new back-up team coupled with a new administration. Will the arrival of KP, Ryder and Robin Uthappa help Royal Challengers Bangalore, turn a new page? Will the Royal Challengers Bangalore undergo a image makeover? Answers just days away...

Latest acquisition: England's most colourful cricketer, Kevin Pietersen, was always going to be the star attraction at DLF-IPL2. So even if it meant pitching in the highest bid, Vijay Mallya was prepared for it. So in came KP as also another rising star from New Zealand, Jesse Ryder.

What you need to know about Bangalore: Bangalore's most priced possessions are its gardens. The former princely state of Mysore is the pride of the state, but it provides the old royal touch to the state of Karnataka and in particular to Bangalore. Bangalore has produced some of the greatest Indian cricketers like GR Viswanath, BS Chandrashekar, EAS Prasanna, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Rahul Dravid.

Fitness barometer: With the infusion of the likes of KP, Ryder and even Robin Uthappa the fitness levels are bound to shoot up. Coach Ray Jennings is known to be a hard taskmaster when it comes to fitness, so expect some tough talking from the former wicket-keeper.

I really don’t know. If you remember, last season also we had won four matches on the trot and then lost some five matches. So, I cannot say at the moment that we are confirmed semifinalists but yes, we will definitely try our best to reach the last four. And every team has great players who can win the match on their day. Had Dilshan have not played a great knock today, we would have lost.

McGrath is very hard for me to pick four overseas players who are going to play in the playing XI. The bowler can bowl only four overs. He is bowling well and getting better with each passing day.

The added responsibility of captaincy gives McCullum the option of handing the gloves to Wriddhiman Saha, who performed reasonably well with the bat last year after McCullum's departure for national duty. With Sanjay Bangar flying back home, Kolkata will have to make at least one change to their line-up from the previous game.

Kolkata: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Brendon McCullum (capt/wk), 3 Laxmi Shukla, 4 Brad Hodge, 5 Sourav Ganguly, 6 Yashpal Singh, 7 Wriddhiman Saha, 8 Ajit Agarkar, 9 Ishant Sharma, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Anureet Singh.

Mumbai's Dhawal Kulkarni got pasted for 18 in an over against Deccan but he may retain his place, on the strength of his performance last year and in the Indian domestic season.

Mumbai: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Sachin Tendulkar (capt), 3 Shikhar Dhawan, 4 JP Duminy, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Abhishek Nayar, 7 Harbhajan Singh, 8 Zaheer Khan, 9 Pinal Shah (wk), 10 Dhawal Kulkarni 11 Lasith Malinga.

Andrew Symonds displayed good form with the bat for the first time in a long time during his 58 on Friday, an innings which was a relief to him and his supporters. More strong showings in the final three games will help seal his passage to England.

Salman Butt was lucky to survive after his awful mix-up with Ahmed Shehzad in the third over on Friday, but he stayed calm following his reprieve and moved to a useful half-century. With Pakistan's batting not going as well as their bowling, Butt has an important job at the top of the order in setting up the side for a match-winning total.

Team news
Clarke called Australia's performance on Friday "brilliant" so don't expect too many changes to the line-up. James Hopes fitted in well at opener and Doug Bollinger was tight in his maiden ODI. Stuart Clark and Ben Hilfenhaus are also in the squad so one of them may come in for the young Ben Laughlin.

Australia (possible) 1 Brad Haddin (wk), 2 James Hopes, 3 Shane Watson, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 Andrew Symonds, 6 Callum Ferguson, 7 David Hussey, 8 Nathan Hauritz, 9 Stuart Clark, 10 Nathan Bracken, 11 Doug Bollinger.

Pakistan's batting continued to contain rust on Friday as they were dismissed in the 47th over and some tinkering to the line-up could occur. Shehzad, the 17-year-old opener, will be keen for another chance after his unfortunate run-out for 4 on debut.

Pakistan (possible) 1 Salman Butt, 2 Ahmed Shehzad, 3 Younis Khan (capt), 4 Shoaib Malik, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Shahid Afridi, 7 Kamran Akmal (wk), 8 Umar Gul, 9 Shoaib Akhtar, 10 Iftikhar Anjum, 11 Saeed Ajmal.

The Kolkata Knight Riders will have to pick themselves up after the exhausting defeat in a sensational Super Over hit-out against the Rajasthan Royals at Newlands on Thursday. Captain Brendan McCullum will have to get his demoralized team to bounce back quickly when they return to the Cape Town ground for their next DLF Indian Premier League engagement against the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday. Both teams are on two points from a single win in three matches.

After having lost to defending champions the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday night, the Kolkata Knight Riders were gutted. By captain Brendan McCullum’s own admission it felt as though the win and the valuable two points had been “stolen” from them. That the Knight Riders were even in with a chance batting second was down to a well-paced 46 from former captain Sourav Ganguly in pursuit of a victory target of 151.

The turning point came in the 16th over of the Kolkata Knight Riders innings, when the Rajasthan Royals’ Munaf Patel conceded 22 runs. That dropped the Kolkata Knight Riders’ required run-rate to about eight, and only seven runs were required from the final over. They could only manage six as Ganguly was dismissed, and proceeded to run up against a hurricane called Yusuf Pathan who blitzed 18 runs off four balls in the super over to easily beat their effort of 15-1.

McCullum might well try batting first should he win the toss in another late game tomorrow, though, since in domestic 20-overs cricket teams have often easily defended scores of around 150. The Chennai Super Kings, despite losing a second game on Thursday to the Delhi Daredevils, have displayed the ability to compile big scores, specially with leading run-getter Matthew Hayden (166 runs from three innings) in their ranks

12th match: Deccan Chargers v Mumbai Indians at Durban

The Deccan Chargers hope to prove that their stunning start to Season 2009 of the DLF Indian Premier League in South Africa is no fluke when they play the star-studded Mumbai Indians at the Kingsmead in Durban on Saturday.

The Chargers finished bottom of the log in the inaugural season of the DLF IPL in India last year, but seem to have undergone a complete transformation and a thorough refining of tactics has seen them head this year's table after victory in the first two matches against the defending champions Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

They appear to have come together nicely during a 10-day camp in Pretoria prior to start of the tournament. Captain Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs and the stylish Rohit Sharma have scored the bulk of the Deccan Chargers' runs at the top of the order, while left-arm swing bowler RP Singh and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojah have starred with the ball. No wonder then that you find four of the Deccan Chargers in the Top 10 listings for the Orange Cap and Purple Cap standing. Rohit Sharma with 88 runs and Adam Gilchrist with 84 both feature in the Top 10 for the Orange Cap race, while R P Singh with his rich haul of 6 wickets leads the Puprle Cap standings and has team-mate Kiwi Scott Styris giving him company with 5 wickets.

However the clearest indication of the unity of purpose that exists in the Deccan Chargers team has been their fielding. Gibbs and Sharma have displayed great athleticism and enthusiasm in the inner-ring to set the example for the rest of the side as they've pressed opposition batsmen with their cutting off of singles and their stopping of boundaries.

They'll need to be at their best Saturday as they confront a Mumbai Indians batting line-up consisting of Sachin Tendulkar (who celebrated his 36th birthday this week), Sanath Jayasuriya and JP Duminy. The Indians haven't played for a week after their second match against Rajasthan was rained out on Tuesday.

Rohit was just warming up when Gilchrist sizzled. Once his captain got out, Rohit switched to his effortless hitting mode, which was one of the memorable sights of the last year's IPL. That Rohit paced himself well, showed in his scoring just 10 off the first 12 balls he faced, and 42 off the next 18. Anil Kumble's last over, the 13th of the innings, was the springboard for Rohit, with three sixes over midwicket - one swept flat, one lofted effortlessly, and the third a pull off a flatter, shorter delivery. Two more sixes later, Rohit perhaps fell at an inopportune time, with only 12 coming off the last 10 balls of the innings. But enough damage had been done by Rohit and Gilchrist by then.

Mascarenhas v Gayle: Mascarenhas had a good game against Bangalore but a hungry Gayle offers a far sterner test. During the ODIs in the Caribbean Gayle hammered 24 in one over by Mascarenhas but the England allrounder dusted himself down and played a key role in a nine-wicket win with 3 for 26 in the next match. Expect fireworks as Rajasthan's strike bowler meets Kolkata's master blaster.

Warne, Mascarenhas, Smith and Tyron Henderson should continue to be the four foreign players. Niraj Patel is the man most likely to be under pressure. Young Abhishek Raut from Maharashtra could be one candidate to take his place.

Rajasthan Royals: (probable) 1 Graeme Smith, 2 Swapnil Asnodkar, 3 Yusuf Pathan, 4 Tyron Henderson, 5 Dimitri Mascarenhas, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Abhishek Raut, 8 Shane Warne (capt.), 9 Mahesh Rawat (wk), 10 Munaf Patel, 11 Kamran Khan.

South African allrounder Albie Morkel will be pushing hard to take Chennai Super Kings to victory in the second season of the IPL but he isn't about to reveal secrets with the World Twenty20 around the corner।

Graeme Smith, JP Duminy, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Herschelle Gibbs, Dale Steyn and Roelof van der Merwe are some of the South Africans who play for other teams in the IPL and Morkel said they had been given instructions not to reveal secrets with the World Twenty20 coming up in June.

"We've been given specific instructions by our boards not to reveal all our secrets, especially with the World Twenty20 coming up in a couple of months' time," Albie told Times of India. "It's not that we don't talk, but we don't reveal all our strategies. That is as per instructions from our boards. We cannot show off all our secret weapons and there's not much we can do about it. It's true not just for me, but for the others as well."

Captain vs captain: Adam Gilchrist captains the way he bats- very aggressive and positive in his approach. He is a man totally in command and has made an impact on his side. His counterpart on the other side, Kevin Pietersen is somewhat similar in his approach, so it is a battle between two similar styles.

Key battles: Anil Kumble's experience will come in handy as he goes one on one against the old guard of Gilchrist and Herschelle Gibbs. Pieterson could turn to Kumble to stall Gilly and Gibbs in their tracks. On the other hand, expect the fiery Fidel Edwards to go hard at the solid Dravid. This is a contest from the text books and is likely to go down well with the purists.

Team news: Dravid and Kumble were given an off-day from training, but the rest of the squad too looks in fine form. Deccan have little to frown about, because their XI appears settled for now. No injury worries for now.

Pakistan v Australia at Dubai - Apr 22, 2009

Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, has said he would have retired from international cricket immediately had he been caught in the kind of terror attacks carried out on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore last month by militants.

Younis, in Dubai preparing to play against Australia next week, is due to brief an ICC board meeting with his account of the incident alongside his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahela Jayawardene and other match officials caught up in the attacks. The Pakistan team bus narrowly avoided getting caught in the crossfire, having left the team hotel five minutes later than the Sri Lankan bus and then turned around once the news reached them.

The attacks have forced Pakistan's players to come to terms with even greater security around them. Security was intense when the team practiced at the Gaddafi Stadium before leaving for Dubai, with reports claiming that hundreds of security personnel guarded the squad as they walked barely 200 meters from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to the stadium itself.

Sourav Ganguly made yet another comeback, this time with the ball, to help Kolkata Knight Riders keep Kings XI Punjab down to 158 for 6. Thereafter, Chris Gayle made the most of two dropped chances to dishearten Punjab and take Kolkata 11 ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis par-score when heavy rain ended the match in the 10th over.

Ganguly had been quiet in the lead-up to this tournament; he had lost his captaincy and looked out of sorts in scoring 1 in 12 balls against Deccan Chargers. Today, though, he made his statement with the ball, taking two wickets in his first over and pulling Punjab back from a solid-yet-unspectacular start.

When Ganguly came on to bowl, Irfan Pathan, promoted to No. 3, had just taken Ishant Sharma for 14 in his third over, and Punjab had moved along to 46 for 1 at the end of six overs. Thirty-two of those had come from Irfan's bat, in 17 deliveries.

And then Ganguly struck, fortuitously at first. Irfan went for a six to the deep midwicket area and was caught smartly by Murali Kartik at the boundary. Two balls later, Ganguly got Ravi Bopara, the opener, to edge to the new captain, Brendon McCullum. Both men were elated, the captain with his bowling change, the bowler having proved a point, and both ran in different directions to celebrate and eventually hugged each other.

Punjab moved from 46 for 1 in six to 67 for 3 in ten overs before a rain interruption. Following that, Punjab enjoyed two of the best overs of their innings. Yuvraj Singh hit a six off Ganguly to take 14 off his third over. Yet, Ganguly ended with figures of 24 for 2 off his four. And just after the rain break, in perhaps a poor tactical move, McCullum brought Chris Gayle on, who had trouble gripping the wet ball and bowled three wides in his 14-run over.

Shaun Tait has become the latest Australian to be withdrawn from the IPL after Cricket Australia were unwilling to gamble on his health ahead of the World Twenty20. His manager said the decision was "very disappointing" for Tait, who was expected to be part of the Rajasthan Royals campaign, which begins on Saturday.

Tait hasn't played since Australia's one-day international against New Zealand in Perth on February 1 as he faced a long recovery from a tear to his left hamstring but he believed he had returned to near full fitness. He was named in Australia's 30-man preliminary squad for the World Twenty20, which begins in England in June, but now faces further time on the sidelines in the lead-up.

"The IPL was the only chance to prove his fitness before the squad for the Twenty20 World Cup was picked," Tait's manager Andrew McRitchie told the Weekend Australian. "How he proves that now, I don't know.

"The excitement of playing alongside Warney and defending champions Rajasthan was definitely something that has been at the forefront of his mind. The Royals have been exceptionally understanding and they know that Taity is a long-term prospect for them. Whilst a [Cricket Australia] contracted player he will play by their rules, and Taity understands that."

It will be a costly few weeks for Tait, who will miss out on the US$375,000 that Rajasthan bid for him this year. But Cricket Australia has taken a cautious approach to the devastating fast bowler they believe can spearhead them to victory in the World Twenty20.

"Shaun Tait won't be playing IPL," Cricket Australia's spokesman Peter Young said. "He's still working through the rehab program and it has been determined that he won't be playing IPL. He has a hamstring injury and there's associated issues behind the hamstring injury."

Brett Lee is on target for a quick return from injury after being fast-tracked into Australia's one-day squad for the series against Pakistan later this month. Lee had an ankle and foot operation in January and initially eyed a comeback through the Indian Premier League, but his plans changed when he convinced the selectors and support staff of his improving health.

Andrew Symonds is also part of the squad for the engagements in the UAE following his Cricket Australia clearance for a string of off-field issues. Shane Watson, who is recovering from back stress fractures, is in the 14-man outfit that will be led by Michael Clarke. Ricky Ponting will rest ahead of the World Twenty20 and the Ashes along with Mitchell Johnson and Michael Hussey.

The appearances of Lee and Shaun Marsh (hamstring) are subject to fitness while Watson has been called as a specialist batsman, although he may take the ball later in the tour. "Brett's return to bowling at full pace will be monitored carefully and will be reviewed closer to the date of the commencement of the tour," Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said. "He'll need to get cricket under his belt and we'll need to look at how we do that, but at the moment it's step-by-step. He's got to get back to bowling full pace before we can make any decisions."

An extra player was chosen to support Lee, with Nathan Bracken, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brett Geeves and Ben Laughlin rounding out the pace attack. Peter Siddle has been left out but remains in Hilditch's plans for the major series in England, starting with the World Twenty20 in June. "He is seen as a potentially key member of our squad for our defence of the Ashes," Hilditch said.

Symonds and Lee last played for Australia in the Boxing Day Test before heading for surgery. Lee, who flew to South Africa this week in a bid to train with the one-day team, struggled through the international summer before a stress fracture in his foot flared in Melbourne. He was also found to have a problem in his ankle and both issues were fixed during surgery.

Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody believes the second edition of the IPL will be more competitive than the first while the team's captain, Yuvraj Singh, was hopeful his side could go better than the semi-finals this year.

"There is no way anybody can pick one team above the other. All the sides were evenly matched," Moody said in South Africa. "All the teams in the competition are very strong. I think it would be foolish of anyone to try and predict who the favourites or second favourites will be."

Moody picked the Delhi Daredevils, who they will play on April 19 in Cape Town, as one of Punjab's biggest threats. The teams meet in Cape Town on April 19. "Delhi Daredevils is always a tough game for us. We've got them first up and they boast a good international list but also have some very good Indian stars."

Yuvraj was confident of his core base but expressed concern over the fast-bowling stakes. With new signing Jerome Taylor injured in a car accident recently and Sreesanth recovering from a back injury, Punjab have effectively lost five of their frontline players. The Australians Shaun Marsh, James Hopes and Brett Lee will be away on national duty but Punjab are hopeful they will be free for the second half of the IPL.

"We have a good team this season. We have a good batting line-up with the likes of [Kumar] Sangakkara, [Mahela] Jayawardene and Shaun Marsh. Besides, we also have Ravi Bopara this year who can also bowl a bit," said Yuvraj."The only worry is the pace department. A couple of pacers are coming back from injuries while Sreesanth has been ruled out. But I am confident that the rest of the squad will rise to the occasion."

Watch Streaming Highlights Kolkata Knight Riders vs Deccan Chargers

The India seamer claimed four wickets for only 22 runs and was given good support from Pragyan Ojha (two for 14) and Scott Styris (two for 32) as Kolkata could only set a lowly target of 102.

Only Brad Hodge (31) managed to put up any fight and the Chargers raced home thanks to Herschelle Gibbs (43) and Rohit Sharma (36), who both finished unbeaten.

Kolkata got off to a poor start, losing their first wicket when Brendon McCullum - the New Zealander who set the tournament alight last season when he blasted 158 in the opening match - gloved the first ball of the second over by RP Singh down the leg side to Adam Gilchrist for one.

Two overs later, Chris Gayle (10) top-edged the same bowler to Harmeet Singh running in from long-off, before the catcher turned wicket-taker when he drew a thick edge from Sourav Ganguly (one) to VVS Laxman at first slip.

At that stage the Knight Riders were 16 for three in the sixth over, partly because of the stingy spell of bowling from Fidel Edwards at the other end - the West Indian had figures of none for two in three overs.

Ojha then came in and removed Aakaash Chopra (11) and Laxmi Shukla (eight), both stumped by Gilchrist, before Hodge and Moises Henriques put on 24.

Two wickets in one over from Styris - removing Hodge and Henriques (six) - left the score at 73 for seven and Ajit Agarkar, Ishant Sharma and Dinda all went cheaply as Kolkata were all out for 101 in 19.4 overs.

Deccan never looked troubled in their response despite losing the wicket of Gilchrist in the third over - the former Australia wicketkeeper mistiming an attempted pull shot off Dinda and top-edged to Henriques at square leg for 13.

Indian Premier League t20 start on apr 18

Fans who have become accustomed to Twenty20 matches lasting just three hours are in for a surprise during the second season of the IPL - they will now last three-and-a-quarter hours. Part of the appeal of the shortest form of the game is the non-stop action but IPL games will now take longer and there will be no action at all during the added time.

The IPL are planning to market the added time as an 'innovation' by calling it a tactical 'time out' but the fact that each innings will now come to a halt for seven-and-a-half minutes after exactly 10 overs makes it neither tactical nor, indeed, practical.

"It is a move that is driven completely and totally by commercial objectives," a senior production official told Cricinfo. "It is designed purely to make even more money by selling airtime. Nobody could argue that this adds any cricketing value to the tournament or that it can be in the viewers' interest, either in the stadium or watching at home," the official said.

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja absence of in the IPL

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has said the absence of Pakistan players in the IPL in South Africa will seriously affect the television viewership of the event in the country. Though the players will miss the entire tournament, they will be engaged in a limited-overs series in the UAE against Australia starting April 22 and Ramiz hoped the interest will pick up after series ends.

"The event's moved out of India, there are no Pakistani players playing, so the interest in our country has definitely gone down," Ramiz told AFP. "With hardly any international cricket in mid-May the fans will turn towards the IPL and the GEO Super sports channel showing the matches is also drumming up the event."

The captain Younis Khan - a member of the Rajasthan Royals last season - added that the Indian fans too will miss not having them around. His team-mate Sohail Tanvir was the leading wicket-taker in the competition last year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier banned its players from participating in the IPL after the country's relations with India deteriorated after the terror attacks in Mumbai in November. When the tournament was moved out of India - over security reasons - the Pakistan players were hopeful of returning but IPL officials said it wouldn't be possible as the squads had already been finalised earlier.

Indian Premier League (IPL) South Africa 2009

The Indian Premier League (IPL) moves out of India after its schedule clashes with that of the polls. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have told TIMES NOW that the tournament will under all probability be held in England, and that the other likely venue is South Africa.

The new host country of the Indian Premier League and the schedule of its 59 Twenty20 matches
will be out by Monday (March 23) evening, IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi said.

The decision to shift the Twenty20 tournament out of the country was taken at the BCCI’s emergency Working Committee meeting on Sunday (March 22). The cash-rich event had run into rough weather because of security apprehensions.

ipl2009-1The India Premier League (IPL) tournament will be played in South Africa this year. After major concerns over security amidst the general elections taking place at the same in India, the Indian Government could not ensure maximum security for the cricketing event.

Therefore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL board made the decision to move the tournament to either South Africa or England. But it was South Africa that was successful to host the Twenty20 event. The choice was made primarily due to the weather in South Africa being more suitable than England during the dates of the tournament.

The tournament will start on 18th April 2009, which means it is delayed by a week. It will cover 59 matches across six venues, running from 18th April to 24th May 2009. The IPL matches will begin at 4 PM and 8 PM (IST) to suit Indian audiences. The first match will be played in Cape Town and the final in Johannesburg.

Rajasthan's potential stars of this IPL

Shane Warne, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has named Kamran Khan, a 18-year-old rookie left-arm fast bowler, as one of the players to watch out for in the IPL starting in Cape Town on Saturday. Warne has also provided fresh insights into his relationship with Graeme Smith, a bitter rival once but an IPL team-mate now, and reiterated his controversial theory that an international team doesn't need a coach.

Warne, whose captaincy was a revelation during last year's IPL when he galvanised a bunch of not-so-famous players into a winning combination, insisted that he did not regret missing out on being Australia captain.

He shared his shortlist of Rajasthan's potential stars of this IPL with the South Africa-based Sunday Times newspaper and included Kamran, who bowled just one over against Cape Cobras in a warm-up on Saturday, alongside India players Ravindra Jadeja and Yusuf Pathan.

South Africa began the series as the Rank 1

South Africa 317 for 6 (Gibbs 110, de Villiers 84) beat Australia 256 (Haddin 78, Ponting 53, Clarke 50, Steyn 4-44, van der Merwe 3-46) by 61 runs
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
ODI side and they will finish it in the same position after Herschelle Gibbs' 21st one-day international century helped them to an unassailable 3-1 series lead in Port Elizabeth. Gibbs's near-even time innings of 110 repaid the faith placed in him by South Africa after a stint in rehab late last year, propelling them to a commanding 317 for 6. Australia, who again battled against the spin of Roelof van der Merwe, were seldom in the hunt.

The 61-run victory ensured Graeme Smith's men the honour of becoming the first team to triumph in three successive bilateral ODI series against Australia - a streak that dates back to their historic victory in the 438 match in Johannesburg three years ago. It also means that when the teams return to the Wanderers for Friday's fifth and final match, it will be to contest a dead rubber.

An out-of-form Australia were always likely to be on the back foot in Port Elizabeth and they took a couple of gambles by sending South Africa in and choosing Shane Harwood, who was their third oldest ODI debutant of all time. The former punt looked increasingly ill-advised throughout the morning session, as powerful innings from Gibbs and AB de Villiers, who made 84 from 74 deliveries, ensured a hefty total that left Australia little margin for error in their ensuing run chase.
